Philosophy

Summer, the beautiful season of family traditions and activities, is a portrait of who we are when we have freedom from the daily routines of work and school. It is the time of year we choose to be fully alive and happy. What we do in these brief months says much about who we are and who we would be if given the opportunity. For many families the choice of a Summer Language Camp is a reflection of exactly that…who we would like to be and who we would like our children to become. Which languages would we like them to speak? Where would we really like to live if we had a choice?

Our philosophy and mission is to combine these goals of education with an old-fashioned rite of childhood, an active, yet relaxed and enjoyable Summer. Long days of swimming, playing, hiking, reading, and socializing. Creating life-long memories of a magical time away from the everyday world. In Besse we create this child-oriented celebration of Summer. Summer in Provence. A sanctuary of childhood dreams. In the morning hours, while the day warms up, children will study language and writing in very individualized sessions. The daily routines will provide conversational language experiences and lessons from native speakers, supervised by Lance Swedlund, credentialed ESL master teacher. After a morning of academic achievement the long lazy days of Summer will begin with a home-cooked meal and a full day of scheduled and spontaneous choices of activities. This is a key part of our philosophy. Though the old days are over when children could play for hours running around the neighborhood, virtually unsupervised, only coming home for dinner, your child will experience the same feeling of freedom and will enjoy a care-free, yet supervised rural environment. Under the watchful eyes of the Swedlund family and the staff of the vacation property and working domaine in Besse, your child will create future memories of a traditional Summer. A Summer in Provence.
